On June 27, we organized—together with our partner IBM and with the support of the Faculty of Engineering at the University of Montevideo—a day dedicated to quantum computing, aimed at students, faculty, and clients. The event took place in the UM auditorium, as part of the International Year of Quantum Science, declared by UNESCO.
The purpose of the event was to present the current state of this technology and to create a space for exchange between academia and the business sector, with a focus on its potential applications in the near future.

The day featured presentations by Julio Cella, IBM Quantum Ambassador, who shared IBM’s roadmap and concrete use cases in areas such as healthcare, logistics, artificial intelligence, and cybersecurity; and by Laura Gatti, a researcher in quantum computing, and Rafael Sotelo, Dean of the Faculty of Engineering at UM, who provided technical and educational insights into the development of this field in Uruguay.

On behalf of Urudata, Ignacio Cattivelli (Director of Engineering) and Pablo García (Director of R&D) participated, joining the closing panel alongside the speakers in an open conversation about the challenges, opportunities, and preparation that this technology demands from different perspectives.

The event brought together students, faculty, clients, and industry professionals, and helped to continue building connections around topics of technological innovation that are beginning to have an impact on our reality.
